At The Hub School, our priority is always to provide high-quality, in-school education for all pupils. Remote education is provided only as a last resort or in unforeseen circumstances where it is not possible for pupils to attend the school site but they remain well enough to learn. This reflects current Department for Education guidance, which makes clear that remote education should not be viewed as an equal alternative to full attendance at school and should only be offered when attendance is not possible.
Our remote education offer is bespoke and flexible to meet the individual needs of pupils. Work will be tailored wherever possible to support pupils’ learning, taking into account their age, curriculum stage, abilities, and any additional needs. To support continuity of learning, we may use a range of high-quality resources, including curriculum-linked materials from recognised providers such as Oak National Academy, alongside tasks and activities planned by our teaching staff.
Pupils receiving remote education will continue to be recorded accurately in the attendance register using the appropriate absence codes. We will ensure that all remote education activities follow our safeguarding and online safety policies. Staff and pupils will be expected to adhere to the appropriate codes of conduct if live lessons or online engagement take place.
We recognise that face-to-face teaching remains the best form of education, and remote education will only be used when it is judged to be in the pupil’s best interests and after all reasonable steps to enable attendance have been considered.
During any period of remote education, pupils will continue to be supported in their learning and wellbeing and, where appropriate, we will work closely with parents, carers, and relevant professionals to ensure a smooth return to school as soon as possible. Further information about remote education plans and expectations is available from the Department for Education’s guidance for schools in England.
