At The Hub, we have designed our science curriculum to engage and excite our pupils, providing a high challenge environment, individually scaffolded to meet the needs of all our learners.
As a department, we take great pride in ensuring that our pupils are aware of how science can apply to the real world, and the incredible opportunities it can provide us with. From treatment of disease to fixing electrical circuits, to solving crimes and understanding the universe around us, our curriculum is sequenced not only to build knowledge, but to inspire all children.
Our curriculum strives to meet the same level of challenge a pupil would encounter in a mainstream school, but approaches the content from a more practical and student-centred perspective. This allows out pupils to build up a huge repertoire of transferrable skills, while solidifying their knowledge.
In KS4, our students undertake the AQA GSCE Biology qualification. Alongside this, all students will have the opportunity to continue with AQA Unit Awards in biology as standard, with the addition of physics and/or chemistry for those who are interested in broadening their repertoire in preparation for post-16 applications.
We offer a lunch time science revision club, and focus on revision skills needed to access the GCSE exams. As a department we are proud of how we encourage good exam technique in all GCSE lessons, as well as encouraging practical work wherever possible.
