Our bespoke Outdoor Education programme is designed to foster resilience, confidence, and personal growth through immersive, adventurous experiences in a variety of outdoor settings. We aim to support students’ Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) development while equipping them with the practical skills, teamwork, and self-awareness needed to thrive both personally and socially.
Through a carefully structured curriculum featuring watersports, hiking, indoor climbing, and mountain biking, students will have the opportunity to:
- Develop Practical Outdoor Skills: Students will gain hands-on experience and competence in a range of outdoor activities, including navigating trails during hikes, mastering techniques in watersports, building strength and problem-solving through indoor climbing, and enhancing balance and control in mountain biking. These skills form the foundation for safe, confident participation in adventurous activities.
- Build Emotional Resilience and Wellbeing: Participation in outdoor challenges is intentionally designed to boost self-esteem, reduce anxiety, and foster perseverance. By overcoming physical and mental challenges in diverse environments, students develop coping strategies, emotional regulation, and a growth mindset essential for SEMH wellbeing.
- Foster Teamwork and Communication: Collaborative activities encourage students to work effectively within groups, developing empathy, mutual support, and leadership. These experiences build social skills that are transferable beyond the outdoor setting and vital for positive peer relationships.
- Encourage Personal Responsibility and Independence: Outdoor education nurtures independence, decision-making, and self-reliance, key components of personal development. Students are supported in taking ownership of their learning and progress, critical for their success in the Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award.
- Promote a Connection to Nature and Healthy Lifestyles: By engaging regularly with natural environments, students develop a lasting appreciation for the outdoors, encouraging lifelong healthy habits and environmental stewardship.
This programme not only equips students with the skills to complete the Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award but also lays the groundwork for confident, resilient individuals who value physical activity, mental wellbeing, and community engagement.
