Looking at Western, non-western and other cultural traditions (Day of the Dead, The Art of Ancient Egypt, The Art of Sierra Leone). They will also become more eco conscious through studying the project ‘Under the Sea’, students will be able to explore the impacts of environmental issues such as marine pollution linked to climate change, they will understand how Art inspires cultural change and how sustainable art bridges creativity and environmental consciousness.
Within a range of projects students will explore the work of a diverse range of artists and designers such as Jason Wilsher-Mills, Hundertwasser, Orla Kiely and Frida Kahlo, which will inform their designing and meaning – making activities. Students will develop their vocabulary and subject specific terminology as well as using visual language to critically analyse the work of studied artists.
In terms of creativity, students will develop and apply original, imaginative and inventive ideas. They will work in the creative flow to organise, present and inform ‘meaning making’. This will prepare students for the studying of GCSE Art Craft and Design, 3D Design and Textiles.
Students will develop their critical and creative thinking skills such as; encouragement to use creative thinking to inform action, to be resourceful, resilient and reflective. These skills will support students to work with a growth mindset informing conscious improvement of learning and outcomes.
Through studying projects, students learning will be organised through tasks and contextual information, this will then determine the knowledge and skills to be acquired/developed/ gained. Students will be supported to take ownership of their own learning and further develop their own understanding of meaning making.
Within projects students will explore the creative industries, exploring job roles within the projects and further study in specific areas of Art craft and design.
