Short Stay is our KS3 early intervention provision, which aims to work in collaboration with mainstream schools to support students who have specific barriers to learning and are currently not experiencing success in a mainstream environment. The Short Stay provision provides additional academic support, bespoke social and emotional wellbeing programs and additional opportunities to develop personal and social skills. We work closely with host schools, families and outside agencies to provide a positive experience across one and a half terms to support students to build their resilience, develop their own strategies to manage behaviour and boost their confidence and self-esteem to allow them to succeed when they return to their mainstream school on a full-time basis. We offer smaller class sizes, reduced student to staff ratios and a curriculum designed to promote personal development and engagement with learning. We provide regular feedback on progress across the term and provide transitional support where required.

Curriculum

Our curriculum aims to support students so that they are able to maintain or successfully reintegrate into mainstream education. Students spend 4 days per week at our short stay provision, where they have the opportunity to participate in a broad and balanced curriculum. In addition to English and Maths, students have the opportunity to take part in lessons focusing on:

  • Lifeskills
  • Enterprise
  • Media
  • PSHE
  • STEM
  • Emotional Wellbeing
  • Enrichment
  • Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme

Our Emotional Wellbeing Lead also provides bespoke 1-2-1 support for students via planned interventions and crisis support as and when required.

Admissions

Students are able to secure a short-term placement via an application process, which is initiated by their mainstream school following agreement from parents/carers. There are two application windows throughout the school year, with start dates in September and late February/early March. Once an application is received, the mainstream school, students and their parents/carers are invited to meet with the Short Stay Lead to discuss a potential placement and to look around the school. Following this meeting, schools and parents/carers will be informed as to whether they have been successful in securing a placement.
